  1. Call to Order
President Linscheid called the meeting to order at 2 p.m.

  2. Roll Call
Secretary Jacqui Glasener called the roll and confirmed that a quorum was present.

  3. Approval of Minutes
Motion/Second/Carried that the minutes of the January 29, 2005 business meeting be approved as submitted.

  4. Officers Reports
    1. President
      • President Linscheid thanked the Chancellor's Office staff for hosting the meeting. In addition, he thanked the Board and Chancellor's Office staff for their hard work on SB 569, reminding Board members that our Legislative Day visits should be supplemented by visits with legislators in their district.

    2. President-Elect
      • Dana Bezerra provided an update on the new Alumni Trustee selection process and shared with the Board that we have 9 highly qualified candidates for the position. TSEC will offer interviews to them all and then narrow the field down to approximately 3 finalists to be interviewed for the position at the June Alumni Council meeting.

    3. Treasurer
      • Gary Davis, on behalf of the Treasurer, reminded the board of the new dues structure, indicating that all campuses would be invoiced shortly.

  5. Liaisons Reports
    1. CSU Advancement VP's
Dr. Peter Smits summarized what has been a collaborative process to develop a system-wide set of "guidelines" for campus affinity agreements. Each campus would operate under this established set of guidelines when determining whether or not to enter into affinity agreements.

    2. Alumni Trustee
Trustee Larry Adamson was absent due to important business and sent his regrets for not being able to attend.

    3. Alumni Directors' Rep
Sue Anderson shared with the group how Karen did an exemplary job testifying at the Senate Education Committee hearing on behalf of SB 569. Further, she asked for volunteers to host future Alumni Council meetings within the next couple of years. Finally, she shared that the Alumni Directors preference for Legislative Day table decorations in the future would be to contribute forward flowers or some other universal display. Preparing individual displays can be overly cumbersome.

    4. CSSA Rep
Manal Yamout announced the CSSA recently held a successful California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS). They provided extensive leadership development for student leaders and participated in advocacy. They are developing their legislative agenda to focus on voter registration and activation, long term student fee policy, and overall budget advocacy.

    5. Academic Senate
      No representative present.

    6. System Office Report
Karen announced several changes at the CSU. David Spence is leaving to become the President of the Southern Regional Education Board. Marvalene Hughes, Peter Smith, and Bob Maxson are all ending their tenure as campus presidents. There are 7 new members of the Board of Trustees. Karen also provided an update with respect to the CSU Budget and priority bills. Gary provided an overview of the next day's Legislative Day and shared that a new Board member orientation would be held September 5th.

  6. Committee Reports
    1. Finance and Development
Dana Bezerra reported the committee had decided to scrap efforts to write an Alumni Council affinity policy because system-wide guidelines are being developed. However, the committee will still proceed with establishing a process by which potential affinity partners should approach the Council.

    2. Government Relations
Karen shared that we should send thank you notes to the members of the Senate Education Committee who supported SB 569. We should then begin working immediately on the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will be a much more difficult committee to pass out of.

    3. Program
Pamela Langford reported the committee has been working on revisions to the Program Planning Guidelines document and handed around a draft for all to review.

  7. Old Business
    There was none.

  8. New Business
    There was none.

  9. Adjournment
    1. Next Meeting: June 17-18, 2005 at CSU, Channel Islands.

    2. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 4:10 p.m.
