In accordance with Title 5, Section 42800, submission of the Academic Calendar and
Pay Period Certification is necessary to establish campus academic calendars.
Guidelines pertinent to the academic calendar are distributed to the campuses via
coded memo each year. The calendars are submitted to the Chancellor's Office for
review and once certified, are programmed into the state payroll system by the State
Controller.

Holiday Planning
Title 5 Section 42920 provides guidelines for holiday observances.
As a general rule, there are certain holidays that are "across the board" for all
campuses and the Chancellor's Office. Pursuant to 42920(a), the following holidays,
when not occurring on a Saturday or Sunday, shall be observed on the days specified:
- January 1
- Third Monday in January (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day)
- March 31 (Cesar Chavez Day)
- July 4
- First Monday in September (Labor Day)
- November 11 (Veteran's Day)
- Thanksgiving Day
- December 25
Pursuant to 42920(b), the following days are designated holidays which the Chancellor or
President may reschedule to another day consistent with the needs of the campus or
systemwide offices:
- Third Monday in February (President's Day)
- February 12 (Lincoln's Birthday)
- Last Monday in May (Memorial Day)
- September 9 (Admission Day)
- Second Monday in October (Columbus Day)
- Personal Holiday (employee designated)
Pursuant to 42920(c), Any holiday which falls on a Saturday shall be observed on the
preceding Friday and any holiday which falls on a Sunday will be observed on the following
Monday.
