Systemwide Professional Development
Resources are available for Systemwide training, primarily
for management and supervisory skills. Although the overall curriculum
supplements those offerings available on the campuses, the scale
and focus is broad.
- Who is eligible to attend the training seminars?
Participants range from lead workers, supervisors, and mid-level
managers to administrators and occasional department chairs.
Most participants are CSU employees, however, participants
from other colleges, universities, and businesses are welcome
to attend, space permitting.
We do not require supervisory authorization when you enroll in
training seminars. We assume that you have followed your internal
procedures.
- How can I be notified of seminars?
We communicate primarily by e-mail with a distribution of
announcements via the web. If you’d like to be notified
of all training activities, please ask to be added to our
Professional Development e-mail notification list. Requests
can be made electronically to The Source.
Please provide your name, job title, campus, and e-mail address.
- How do I register to take a seminar?
All of our registration activity is automated and on-line.
Links to our registration forms will be available at
http://thesource.calstate.edu
as seminars are announced. It’s easy to register and,
once you’ve registered, every subsequent registration
is streamlined. All we need is your basic information linked
to your e-mail address.
- Is there a registration fee?
Yes. Most of our seminars are funded through registration fees
paid by the campus, the department, or in rare cases, by an individual.
We can accept a credit card on-line, check or purchase order.
But … we do require payment at or before the registered
seminar. Seminar fees range from $99 to $299.
- Where are seminars conducted?
You’ll find training throughout California … most
likely on or near one of our CSU campuses.
- Who conducts the training?
For the most part, our trainers are professionals outside
of the CSU. Our trainers may be consultants, attorneys, authors,
or full-time professional trainers presenting their programs
at locations anywhere in the world. But you can be assured
that those who pass our rigorous qualifying standards will
be among the best.
- What if I’m not able to get away for training?
Good question, and one we've already thought about. In the past, CSU
employees have had access to an extensive library of engaging online
business training for a small annual registration fee. Beginning in
January 2004 we will be making a new library available online utilizing
some of the top management training content and experts. Users will have
the ability to subscribe only to those topics that interest them.
- How about any specialized training just for my department
or campus?
We can do that, too. And, … if we can’t do it,
perhaps your campus is already equipped to meet your needs.
Just ask.
- How can I talk to a real person?
