Call For Service

SB 1052 and SB 1053, approved last year, support expanding the use of Open Educational Resources (OERs) in our colleges and universities and building an open digital library so as to reduce the cost of course materials for students. The ASCSU is seeking CSU faculty with experience in developing and/or using OERs to serve on the council to implement this process. If you are interested in being considered for this position, please review the bill and position description and submit a letter of interest and CV by March 1, 2013. Please note that these positions are contingent on matching funds yet to be secured. More »

Reports from the Standing Committees

The Academic Senate has four Standing Committees: Academic Affairs, Academic Preparation and Education Policies, Faculty Affairs, and Fiscal and Governmental Affairs. These Committees met face-to-face on January 17-18, 2013, and the Chairs offer summaries of their past and future actions. More »

San Jose State University Report on Udacity

A pilot project to assess online education in critical bottleneck courses is underway via a partnership between San Jose State University (SJSU) and Udacity.  SJSU Statewide Academic Senators Judith Lessow-Hurley and Mark Van Selst offer a summary based on their understanding of the project. Tom Krabacher, the ASCSU Legislative Specialist, summarizes key bills affecting higher education that are being considered by legislators. More »


Faculty Trustee Report

Bernadette Cheyne serves as the representative of CSU faculty on the Board of Trustees. She offers her unique perspective on the items discussed with the Board and on the actions taken at the January Board meeting. More »
