Support for An Executive Order on California State University (CSU) Systemwide Nursing Policy
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University (ASCSU) commend the efforts of the faculty, staff and administrators involved in the development and implementation of the CSU Systemwide Nursing Policy; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU support the issuance of an Executive Order in congruence with the shared-governance process to establish statewide policy to regulate CSU nursing degree programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels and including specific issues of admissions, prerequisites, and articulation; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU distribute this resolution to the CSU Board of Trustees, the CSU Chancellor, CSU campus Presidents, CSU Provosts, and CSU campus Senate Chairs.
RATIONALE: The Executive Order on CSU Systemwide Nursing Policy responds to Title 5, California Code of Regulations, sections 40100, 40402, 40405.1, 40408, 40409, 40410, 40508, 40540, 40541, and the Standing Orders of the Board of Trustees, section II(a). This Executive Order establishes a systemwide nursing policy and addresses program admission in regards to prior non-nursing degrees, statewide nursing program admission prerequisites for baccalaureate and entry-level master’s programs, baccalaureate nursing degrees pursued in postbaccalaureate standing, articulation, credit for demonstration of prior learning of pre-licensure nursing content, and bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree: Reporting Total Units Required. This resolution endorses the Executive Order as a good implementation of related legislation emanating from the State Assembly; but this item does not endorse the legislation itself, which represents another example of intrusion into the curricular domain of faculty governance.
