Dr. Harold Hellenbrand
Dr. Harold Hellenbrand took office in 2012 as the interim president of California State University, Northridge—assuming the chief executive role of one of the largest campuses in the CSU system. With 18 years of experience at the CSU, Hellenbrand's background reflects strengths in planning, K-12 linkages, retention efforts, and a strong commitment to diversity.
Hellenbrand served as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at CSU Northridge since 2004. In that role, he was responsible for directing more than 2,500 faculty and staff in the division of Academic Affairs, the largest unit within the university with an annual budget exceeding $160 million.
Hellenbrand currently serves as a member of the CSU Academic Council, the President's Cabinet at CSUN, and the CSUN Foundation's Board of Directors. He also chairs the Provost's Council, and the University Planning and Budget Group.
Before his appointment at CSU Northridge, Hellenbrand served as dean, and professor at the College of Liberal Arts at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo from 1998 to 2004, and professor at the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Duluth from 1994 to 1998. He began his tenure with the CSU as a professor of English at California State University, San Bernardino from 1982 to 1994.
After earning a bachelor's degree in English and American literature from Harvard College, Hellenbrand received his doctorate in modern thought and literature from Stanford.
