Affordable Learning Solutions Provides easy access to free online course content and free online textbooks as well as guidance on using CSU library resources that can substitute for print textbooks. The website provides access to lower-cost publisher content, online resellers of used books, and authoring tools for faculty to create online content easily.

Systemwide Digital Library Services (SDLS)

Offers CSU Systemwide library strategy for purchasing electronic resources that are shared across all 23 campuses. (Accessible through CSU Network only.)
MERLOT - Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching Offers free access to over 46,000 online teaching and learning materials across a wide range of disciplines.
World Images Database Offers over 65,000 FREE copyright controlled digital images in the humanities, arts, social sciences and architecture for use in teaching and research.
Center for Alternate Media (CAM) Provides over 10,000 commercial textbooks available in alternate accessible format.
Accessibility Resource Finder Access to FREE digital library of resources concerning assistive technologies, accessibility products, accessibility evaluation methods and training materials.

Accessible Technology Teaching Commons

Discover the guidelines for procurement, web accessibility, instructional materials and training to meet the Accessible Technology goals of the CSU.
Course Redesign Course Redesign continues to focus on high-enrollment general education courses, with instructors sharing their quality instructional practices to increasingly meet the needs of CSU students. Instructional strategies include fully online, hybrid, flipped, supplemental instruction services and technology-enhanced delivery methods.
Online Degree Programs Discover all online BA/BS, MA/MS and credential degree programs offered across the CSU system.
Teaching Commons: ePortfolio Provides web-based guidelines, resources and tools for planning and implementing the use of e-portfolios in the CSU.
Teaching Commons: Student Learning Outcomes Provides web-based guidelines, resources and tools for planning and implementing student learning outcomes assessment, resources about and campus projects related to CLA, NSSE, and WASC.
MERLOT Journal for Online Learning and Teaching (JOLT) Provides FREE online journal of peer reviewed research and case studies on the effective use of Academic Technology in teaching and learning.

MERLOT ELIXR Provides a discipline oriented web-based resource that illustrates exemplary teaching practices and inspires faculty to adopt those practices.

CSU Libraries Network

The 23 libraries in the California State University system are a network, led by the Council of Library Deans (COLD), with support of the Systemwide Digital Library Department (SDLD).


The California State University wants to give students access to online courses available across the CSU system with the goal of expanding enrollment opportunities.

Quality Assurance As CSU campuses offer additional blended and online courses, it is critical to define quality online teaching and learning, as well as to determine how to assess it and make desired improvements. In commitment to quality, the CSU offers multiples services and resources to faculty and students.

The three State of California Higher Education Systems are working together to provide easy access to quality FREE and OPEN eTextbooks that everyone and anyone can use for teaching and learning.

ALEKS Math Success

Offers an online intelligent tutor that assesses and provides custom instruction for student learning for the CSU entry-level math courses.
Expository Writing Community Provides English teachers and faculty members web-based expository writing materials and evaluation rubrics aligned with entry level English requirements at the CSU.

iCritical Thinking Tool


Provides an online scenario based assessment tool for evaluating students' information, communication and technology literacy skills. Collaboratively designed by ETS, the CSU and higher education partners.
Teaching Commons: Information and Communication Technology Literacy Discover the wide range of resources, guidelines and instructional materials for integrating information and ICT Literacy into academic programs.
Teaching Commons: Science Education Provides prospective science teachers, current teachers and CSU faculty guidelines, resources and links to experts on recruiting and retaining California science teachers.
Teaching Commons: Noyce Scholars Provides resources on using virtual science labs in teaching high school biology, chemistry, physics and math in high-needs schools.
Teaching Commons: Ed.D Programs in Educational Leadership Provides online resources and guidelines to doctoral students and their faculty for successful completion of Ed.D programs in the CSU.
