1997/98 Employee Compensation Increases

(Funding Source: 1997/98 Final Budget General Fund Compensation Allocations)

Represented Employess

UNIT 1: PHYSICIANS - Open Ranges (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 97-07)

  • 3.04% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1997
  • 1.0% Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) - Effective on employee anniversary date.
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $42,800 effective July 1, 1997 excluding associated benefit costs. PSIs may be augmented with campus funds. Unspent funds shall be added to the PSI pool in the next fiscal year. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 20, 1997 for campus pool)
  • LTD insurance coverage up to 50% of base salary after 6 months (previously one year) of disability (no cost to employees). - Effective August 1, 1997 (Estimated increase to full-year systemwide cost is $2,250)

UNITS 2,5,7 & 9: CSEA - Open Ranges (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 97-07)

  • 2.95% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1997
  • 1.0% Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) - Effective on employee anniversary date.
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $2,492,000 effective July 1, 1997 excluding associated benefit costs. PSIs may be augmented with campus funds. Systemwide funds must be spent during 1997/98. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 20, 1997 for campus pool)

UNIT 3: FACULTY - Steps (2.4%) (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 97-06)

  • 2.21% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1997
  • 1 Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) - Effective on employee anniversary date.
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $7,384,000 effective July 1, 1997 excluding associated benefit costs. PSIs may not be augmented with campus funds. Unspent funds shall be added to the PSI pool in the next fiscal year. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 20, 1997 for campus pool)
  • DMD class transition to regular faculty salary schedule effective January 1, 1997. Full-year cost of transition was included in a1997/98 allocations.

UNIT 4: - Steps (2.4%) ACADEMIC PROFESSIONALS (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 97-07)

  • 2.48% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1997
  • 1 Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) for all eligible employees plus one additional step for all employees hired between July 1, 1995 and June 30, 1997 - Effective on employee anniversary date
  • 1 Service-based Salary Increase for all employees that were eligible for an MSA in fiscal year 1994/95 (funding is not included in 1997/98 compensation allocation) - Due to a settled arbitration case
  • A Discretionary Pay pool of $489,000 effective July 1, 1997 excluding associated benefit costs. May spend up to the designated pool amount but not over. PSIs may not be augmented with campus funds. Unspent funds may not be added to the PSI pool in the next fiscal year. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 20, 1997 for campus pool)

UNIT 6: SKILLED TRADES - Open Ranges (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 97-07)

  • 2.97% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1997
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $224,000 effective July 1, 1997 excluding associated benefit costs. PSIs may be augmented with campus funds. Unspent funds may not be added to the PSI pool in the next fiscal year. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 20, 1997 for campus pool)
  • An indemnity dental plan benefit level increase of $77,000 from the CSU basic level to the CSU Enhanced Level I.

UNIT 8: SAFETY - Steps (2.4%) (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 97-07)

  • 2.11% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1997
  • 1 Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) - Effective on employee anniversary date.
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $87,400 effective July 1, 1997 excluding associated benefit costs. PSIs may be augmented with campus funds. Unspent funds shall be added to the PSI pool in the next fiscal year. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 20, 1997 for campus pool).

UNIT 10: SKILLED TRADE, CMA - Open Ranges (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 97-07)

  • 2.92% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1997
  • 3.0% Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) - Effective on anniversary date.
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $5,100 effective July 1, 1997 excluding associated benefit costs. PSIs may be augmented with campus funds. Systemwide funds must be spent during 1997/98. Unspent funds may not be added to the PSI pool in the next fiscal year.
