Annual Fund
The annual fund provides resources to California State Universities for
a host of purposes including scholarships, program enhancements and student
services. Through an annual gift, donors contribute to a university's growth
and success in every area and discipline. Who
gives to the Annual Fund?
The annual fund is the cornerstone of giving to any university. The
dollars raised through the annual fund at CSU universities represent thousands
of individual gifts from alumni and friends who care deeply about accessible,
affordable, high quality education. Annual gifts come from a range
of campus communities: alumni, faculty, staff, parents, emeriti, students
and friends who enhance the quality of academic programs through their
support.
What are matching funds?
Did you know you can double or sometimes triple your gift to a CSU university
if your company matches employee contributions to higher education? Taking
advantage of your company's Matching Gift program is as easy as 1,2,3.
- Contact your Human Resources Office for eligibility requirements
and to find out how to arrange your gift. Remember, many companies
match the gifts of retirees, spouses, surviving spouses, and outside
directors.
- Follow your company's procedure whether it's completing a paper form
or using a call-in system.
- If your company uses a paper form, mail the completed form along
with your gift, to the CSU campus of choice.
Matching gifts are a vitally important source of funds for California
State Universities. They are also an increasingly important way for companies
to allow their employees to direct a portion of the monies earmarked for
charitable contributions to a university of their choice.
- Why do companies establish matching gift programs?
By giving to a California State University that educates their employees,
companies "give where they get." Matching gifts are a way for companies
to show their appreciation for the California State University system
and to ensure that a supply of educated personnel will continue to be
available to them.
Even if matching gift companies do not employ alumni of a CSU, they
may receive indirect benefits from a particular university. They may
enjoy the university's contributions to the economic or cultural well-being
of the community, or the education of family members of their employees.
- Will my company match my gift?
Many companies encourage employees to be philanthropic by matching employee
gifts to colleges and universities. Most companies match dollar for
dollar and some will even match 2:1 or 3:1. Contact your personnel or
human resources office to get information about your company's matching
gift policy.
- Can a donor designate the matching amount?
In most situations, a California State University will follow the company's
policy for designation. If it is the policy of the company to designate
its gift to the same organization you designate, the match will follow
your gift. If the company requsts that their gift go to an unrestricted
account, their gift will benefit the priority needs at that CSU campus.
Either way, you get credit for the match, and CSU benefits from the
additional gift.
