Grace Liu is the Intellectual Property Counsel for the CSU Office of General Counsel. Ms. Liu is employed by and stationed at the Fresno State campus and serves as a CSU-wide resource on intellectual property matters. Ms. Liu works in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at Fresno State.
Ms. Liu is a member of the California Bar and the Illinois Bar. She is a registered patent attorney and can practice in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to her employment at Fresno State, Ms. Liu practiced patent law for seven years in private law firms in Chicago and Fresno, California. In private practice, Ms. Liu specialized in patent prosecution and patent litigation in the life science technology area.
Ms. Liu analyzes and resolves intellectual property disputes arising out of funded research, writes patent applications, prosecutes patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and handles licensing negotiations. She works in many different industries, including: agriculture, biotechnology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, water technology, biofuel technology, and food processing technology.
Ms. Liu received her undergraduate degree with honors from Harvard University, and her law degree from the University of Chicago. She is past-Vice President of the Central California Asian Pacific Bar Association. She is past president of the Central California Asian Pacific Women. She is a founding member and current President of the Central California University of Chicago Alumni Club.
Ms. Liu is an active member of the Society for Research Administrators (SRA), where she makes many presentations on intellectual property issues.
