Jill Peterson is located on site as the University Counsel for Sacramento State. She is on the Business and Finance Team, and is the Office of General Counsel’s resource attorney for Student Fees, Social Media, Public-Private Partnerships, and Advancement. She handles a variety of legal issues for the campus and serves as a member of the President’s cabinet and various campus committees relating to health and safety, health services and behavioral consultation. Prior to joining CSU, Ms. Peterson was in private practice for eight years where she specialized in employment and labor law. Ms. Peterson also previously served as Acting Director and Chief Deputy Director of the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), the largest state civil rights agency in the country. Prior to joining the DFEH, Ms. Peterson was a full time faculty member at UC Davis School of Law (where she was also an Assistant Dean) for five years and at McGeorge School of Law for four years. Her teaching focused on clinical education and professional ethics. Ms. Peterson started her legal career as a litigator working for private firms in San Francisco and Sacramento.

Ms. Peterson has delivered a number of presentations to local and national audiences relating to hate crimes, housing and employment discrimination.
