Janet R. Kellogg
California State University, San Marcos
With a deep commitment to enhancing the quality of life for local citizens, Janet (Jean) R. Kellogg has distinguished herself as a civic volunteer, a friend of higher education and a philanthropist. She has been actively involved as a volunteer in local organizations such as the Rancho Santa Fe Country Friends and the Rancho Santa Fe Library Guild. She also serves as a member of the Scripps Institutions of Medicine and Science Foundation Board.
In addition to her service to the local community, Mrs. Kellogg has generously given her time and resources to California State University San Marcos. Her involvement in the campus from the very beginning stages has served as a powerful example for others to emulate. This endorsement from a prominent citizen has encouraged others to invest their time, talent and resources in the university.
As a demonstration of her warmth and compassion, Mrs. Kellogg takes particular pleasure in helping promising students realize their dreams. She has actively served as a member of a campus scholarship committee since she established a scholarship endowment for meritorious and financially needy students.
Her support of higher education in the California State University goes beyond the San Marcos campus. She and her husband, W. Keith Kellogg II, are long-time benefactors to Cal Poly Pomona. The Jean and Keith Kellogg Art Gallery is just one testament of their support for that campus.
At commencement in May 1998, Jean and W. Keith Kellogg II received CSU San Marcos' first President's Distinguished Service Award. Most notable among their many and varied contributions to the university is a one-million-dollar gift to support the planning of the future Library Information Center.
In recognition of her meritorious service to higher education and the community, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State University, San Marcos are proud to confer upon Janet R. Kellogg the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
