While CSU policy prohibits the operation of study abroad programs in countries with a U.S. State Department Travel Warning, the CSU Office of International Programs encourages all CSU students interested in a year of study abroad in Mexico to submit an IP application by December 15.
While the program in Mexico is currently suspended, this suspension will be reviewed with the hope of being able to send students to Mexico next year, where we know they can gain a deeper understanding of the culture, history and language. We welcome the applications of interested and qualified students.
Querétaro is a city of approximately 1.5 million about 125 miles north of Mexico City and 220 miles east of Guadalajara. One of the most well-known and beautiful colonial cities, UNESCO has named it a World Cultural Heritage Site. It is located near the ancient capitals of the Aztecs and the Toltecs and is growing as an important business and industrial center.
IP students attend the Querétaro campus of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), better known as Tec. The Tec has grown into a major university system with 32 campuses throughout Mexico. The campus at Querétaro was founded in 1975 and currently enrolls about 5,000 students in 19 different majors. CSU students may pursue coursework in most of these areas, subject to their language ability, or concentrate on Spanish language learning.
