New Zealand: Overview

The two major islands and the smaller associated islands, which make up the country of New Zealand, produce a biological wonder containing many unique species of plants and animals. Settled first in the early ninth century by Polynesian peoples and later in the late 18th century by Dutch and British colonials, New Zealand's history and development is one of stark cultural contrasts. Today, New Zealand is a major agricultural exporting country and the conflict between its need to maximize export production while preserving its limited natural resources is a constant concern for New Zealanders.

Massey University, established in 1927, offers CSU students an attractive 99-acre campus set among huge trees and beautiful gardens located on the outskirts of Palmerston North. This North Island city (population 75,000) has a vibrant student community.

Palmerston North, a center of excellence for education with several tertiary and government research institutions is often known as the "knowledge city". This is a young person's city with affordable accommodation, restaurants, internet cafes, parks and sporting centers.
