Ying Zhong
Groundbreaking researcher
Ying Zhong received a $4,750 grant in 2006 from the CSU Bakersfield Research Council of the University (RCU) to initiate a study and to conduct a campus wide online survey regarding library services. Her study sought to identify library services that facilitated CSUB students' ability to conduct their academic work more efficiently and successfully, measuring factors such as library hours, off-campus electronic access to databases, facilities, the library website, etc. Ying and her colleague, Johanna Alexander, surveyed students' and librarians' perceptions. The informative results hold promise for library services planning.
In spring 2007, Ying was awarded the coveted Association of College and Research
Libraries' (ACRL) National Conference Librarian scholarship to present the paper "Academic success: How library services make a difference." She and Johanna Alexander's in-person presentation was well received by over 300 people. Afterwards, they were invited to present their findings at the ACRL Virtual Conference, which was webcast to attendees around the country.
