CSU Receives Federal Grant for Biotechnology Center

The California State University Program for Research and Education in Biotechnology (CSUPERB) has received a Small Business Administration earmark grant in the amount of $280,000 to establish a biotechnology training center in Pasadena to serve the needs of the regional life sciences industry in the greater Los Angeles area. The CSU Biotechnology Center is a public-private partnership between eight CSU campuses in Southern California, the Southern California Biomedical Council, the Pasadena Bioscience Collaborative, and Pasadena City College. The Center will focus on coordinating workforce delivery systems and providing industry-specific training to help bridge the gap between current educational offerings and the skill sets needed by biotechnology companies.

CSU Summer Arts Ends 2008 Season On High Notes

Long Beach, Sept. 30 - The numbers are impressive for the 2008 edition of California State University Summer Arts, hosted by the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno.

  • • 2 - Venues for programs: Fresno, CA and Florence, Italy
    • 518 - Class seats filled (highest in Summer Arts 23-year history)
    • 7 - Nations represented by students and guest artists: Great Britain, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, and the United States
    • 17 - Public performances by Summer Arts students

Success for CSU Summer Arts isn't measured in numbers alone. More important is the experience students gain by working intensively with top creative people for two weeks to improve their own abilities and to help make contacts that can advance their careers.

Cal Maritime's Physical Ed/ Water Center Wins Budget Support

Long Beach, Sept. 15 - The California State University (CSU) has selected 23 students to receive the 2008/09 William R. Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement. The winners, one from each campus in the system, were honored by the Trustees on Sept. 17 at the CSU Office of the Chancellor in Long Beach, California.

Cal Maritime's Physical Ed/ Water Center Wins Budget Support

Vallejo, Sept. 26 - Although the new state budget package just approved by the Legislature is a very tight one for all of the 23 campuses of the California State University (CSU) system, it included some very good news for the California Maritime Academy – $34.7 million for a new physical education and water survival training center.

CSU East Bay Athletics Accepted for CCAA Membership

Hayward, Sept. 17 - The University Presidents/Chancellors' Group of the California Collegiate Athletic Association has unanimously approved the application for membership of California State University, East Bay beginning with the 2009-10 athletics seasons. The conference is currently comprised of 10 CSUs and UC San Diego.
