Two California State University Campuses Cited Among Most Affordable, Accessible with Graduation Success Rates
Report includes data from nearly 1,200 colleges and universities nationwide
(June 2, 2011) - In a report released this week, two California State University campuses – Fullerton and Long Beach – were among only five universities cited by the Education Trust as the most affordable and accessible institutions with high graduation rates.
The Ed Trust report, "Priced Out: How the Wrong Financial-Aid Policies Hurt Low-Income Students" analyzed data from approximately 1,200 four-year colleges and universities to review rising costs in college education. CSU's Fullerton and Long Beach campuses were found to have demonstrated success in three key areas:
- Enrolling a proportion of low-income students at least as high as the national average.
- Asking students to pay a portion of the family income no greater that what the average middle-income student pays for a bachelor's degree.
- Offering students at least a 50 percent chance at graduation.
"The Ed Trust data reaffirms that CSU campuses are continuing to provide the residents of California with access to an affordable, quality education," said CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed.
Besides the data analysis provided in the report, the Ed Trust also recognized the CSU as a system that is "deeply, publicly committed to closing the access and success gaps between low-income and high-income students, and between whites and underrepresented minorities."
