Cdigix Selected by the University of California School System to Offer Digital Media Services to UC and Cal State University Students
Leading Digital Media Service Provider Chosen to Offer its Services to Up to 33 California Campuses; Company Also Announces Series of New School Contracts
Englewood, CO, July 18, 2005 – Cdigix, the leading provider of legal digital media services exclusively focused on the college marketplace, today announced that it has been selected by the University of California system to provide its broad-based digital entertainment and educational services to campuses that choose to offer its services. Campuses in the California State University system will also have access to license Cdigix services under this agreement.
The Cdigix selection is the result of a seven-month search that the two California state systems embarked on last fall in response to growing demand from their students. The UC system is comprised of 10 campuses extending throughout the state of California, including UC Berkeley, UCLA and UC San Diego, and is attended by more than 200,000 students. The California State University system consists of 23 campuses including Cal State University Northridge and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and boasts a student body of about 400,000.
“The University of California and Cal State University are two of the most prestigious and influential university systems in the world, with a combined enrollment of about 600,000 students,” said Brett Goldberg, President, Cdigix. “They are at the forefront of an important movement to equip university students with broad-based, high-quality, legal digital media. We are honored to have been awarded the opportunity to provide their campuses with Cdigix’s comprehensive services.”
“Cdigix will be a valuable partner for campuses instituting online entertainment programs because of its wide range of content and services, its exclusive focus on the college marketplace, and its proven track record working with premier universities across the nation,” said David Walker, Director of Advanced Technology for the University of California, who oversaw the selection of vendors for UC. “This is an important endeavor that we are embarking on, and we are pleased to be working with an established leader on the project.”
Cdigix offers its partnered schools four distinct services and is customizable based on each individual school’s needs:
“The demand for Cdigix’s services continues to increase, as more schools are responding to their students’ appetite for digital media by turning to the trusted source,” said Goldberg. “We attribute this increased demand to a number of key factors, including our broad range of digital media offerings; our guarantee that our files are free of viruses, spyware and adware; our ability to reduce bandwidth congestion over the university’s network; and the overall benefits of providing a legal alternative to illegal file-sharing networks.”
Cdigix is the leading provider of secure, legal digital entertainment and educational media exclusively serving the college market. The company offers four distinct services to college students: Ctrax for legal music, Cflix for legal video on demand programming, Clabs for educational media and Cvillage for community interaction. The high-quality content offered by Cdigix is available through partnerships with premier entertainment and media companies, and is distributed via the universities’ internal IP infrastructures. Cdigix currently has relationships with 24 college campuses, reaching 310,000 students. The company is headquartered in Englewood, CO. More information can be found at www.cdigix.com.
