February 15, 2006—Pacific Gas and Electric Company has donated $13,850 to the California State University Foundation for Future Scholars to help fund the William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustee’s Award for Outstanding Achievement.
“The CSU appreciates the Pacific Gas and Electric Company for their donation that will help financially needy students who demonstrate superior academic performance and outstanding volunteer community service,” said Lori Redfearn, director, systemwide advancement.
The William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustee’s Award for Outstanding Achievement recognizes students who demonstrate financial need, superior academic performance, and outstanding volunteer community service. This scholarship carries the prestige of the Board of Trustees and acknowledges student accomplishment at its highest level: award winners typically have not only overcome great personal and financial obstacles to excel in school, but also give generously of themselves to help others.
The William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement will provide one scholarship of $6,000 and eighteen scholarships valued at $3,000 in the 2006-07 academic year for students with superior academic performance and exemplary community service. Campus presidents may nominate one applicant per campus.
Since its inception in 1984, 117 students have received the William R. Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Awards for Outstanding Achievement. This distinguished award is funded by personal contributions from the CSU Trustees, friends of the university, and an endowment established by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
