CSU Appoints Interim President for Cal State Dominguez Hills

(Jan. 22, 2007) – California State University Chancellor Charles B. Reed today appointed Dr. Boice M. Bowman as interim president of Cal State Dominguez Hills effective March 1, 2007.  Bowman has served as Vice President for Student Affairs on the campus since 1997.  Reed also announced that Dr. James E. Lyons Sr., who has served as president of Dominguez Hills since 1999 and recently announced his plans to retire from the university, has been appointed as Secretary of Higher Education for the state of Maryland.   

CSU has already initiated the search process for a permanent president with a new president anticipated to be selected by the CSU Board of Trustees in May.  Bowman is expected to serve in the interim position until the new president starts.  His salary will be confirmed at the Board of Trustees meeting in March.      

Bowman has more than 35 years of experience in higher education as a faculty member, administrator and higher education consultant, and received his Ed.D from Pepperdine University with a focus on institutional management.  Bowman joined Cal State Dominguez Hills in 1994 as associate vice president for student affairs where he is also an associate professor with tenure of kinesiology and recreation.  He previously served as vice president for student affairs at Compton Community College, and in a variety of capacities for a higher education computer applications company.  Bowman began his career as an elementary school teacher in Michigan, and received his bachelor and master’s degrees in counseling and student personnel at Western Michigan University.
