Carlos Hernandez, of Los Angeles, CA, is a spring 2013 honors graduate from CSUN's Master of Science in Recreational Sport Management. He was originally admitted to CSUN, in the fall of 2006 as an EOP student, where he completed B.A. degrees in Central American Studies and Psychology. Carlos grew up in a community plagued by street gangs and disproportionate school dropout rates. He comes from a single parent household, where at a young age he learned how to cope with his mother's mental illness. Carlos credits EOP for much of his success in college, he states "EOP took a chance on me and they taught me to believe in myself". He found support, guidance and motivation through his involvement in EOP at CSUN. Carlos is establishing a career in soccer as a Referee Education Coordinator for the United States Soccer Federation; he aspires to one day be a FIFA Referee.
