Dr. Eric Lara grew up in La Puente, California, the eldest of two raised by a single mother. Today he is Director of Student Affairs and Alumni Relations for the ECE Department at UC San Diego. After a rocky start, Eric graduated in 2003 from Cal Poly Pomona with a B.S. in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology and a M.A. in Education in 2008. In 2011, he completed an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at USC. He worked with underrepresented engineering students as the MEP Retention Coordinator for five years, before advancing to his current position at UCSD. "EOP showed me that anything is possible, EOP gave me the strength to chase my dreams, no matter how many different directions they took, EOP believed in me, before I fully believed in myself. As an educator, I am proud to look back at my undergraduate career, and thank EOP for helping me succeed."
