Contribution Highlights
- The Bernard Osher Foundation provided a second $1 million endowment gift to support CSU East Bay’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Headquartered at the Concord campus, the program offers non-credit educational programs for learners 50 years of age or older. This endowment gift will help build membership and ensure staffing needed to support the growing program. Endowment distributions will also be used to help expand OLLI’s technology and the number of programs offered at the Concord campus.
- The W.K. Kellogg Foundation committed $852,174 to support the university’s Hayward Promise Neighborhood initiative. This grant will be used to improve vulnerable children’s school readiness in Hayward by enhancing the early childhood components of this federally-funded initiative started last year.
- Wareham Development Corporation committed an additional $250,000 in support of the Institute for STEM Education, a new entity designed to incubate innovations in STEM teaching and learning. The funds will be used to support institute activities with partners in the Green Corridor (Emeryville, Berkeley, West Oakland, etc.). Innovations developed in the institute, such as those co-designed with partners in the Green Corridor, will grow and scale by tapping into the larger network and its comprehensive framework for addressing STEM challenges along the entire education continuum (cradle to career).
