Contribution Highlights
- Thanks to the generosity of a Mihaylo College of Business and Economics
alumnus, the college’s Department of Finance will have a dedicated Student
Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) for the students in the Applied Security
Analysis Program to manage from year to year. Patterned after successful
SMIF programs at leading universities across the country, CSU Fullerton’s
program will provide students with practical investment experience as a part
of the finance curriculum.
- The success of the university’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute was
recognized when the Osher Foundation provided an additional $1 million
in endowment support for the institute. With over 1,000 members, this
gift—coupled with an initial $1 million endowment in 2008—will provide a
foundation of operational support for the institute to provide retired and semiretired
individuals the opportunity to experience a broad array of classes and
programs on the university’s campus.
- The university’s golf teams received a boost when a group of donors
partnered with the Department of Athletics to raise funds to create a practice
facility on campus for the players to work on specific techniques without
traveling to local courses. The golf team continues to be supported by the
annual Folino Invitational Golf Tournament where golfers from a host of
universities compete to support the men’s and women’s golf teams.
- The university’s endowment continued its growth with over $3 million added
to principal bringing the total market value to over $34 million. Providing
lasting support for academic programs and scholarships for students remains
the primary designation of donors. During the year, the Philanthropic
Foundation approved the hiring of new investment managers to help navigate
the investment opportunities and ensure the spending distributions to support
the university’s colleges, programs, and students.
