Contribution Highlights
- Long-time San Diego resident and former city manager Jack McGrory pledged $1.2 million to support the School of Public Affairs, the Department of Classics and Humanities and the Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center. His gift includes components for faculty support and fellowships, study abroad scholarships and tuition scholarships for high-achieving students.
- A $700,000 gift from entrepreneur Irwin Zahn established the Zahn Center for Engineering Innovation, a campus incubator in which young entrepreneurs can turn their ideas into successful companies that will fuel San Diego’s economy. Student teams working in the Zahn Center are eligible to compete each spring for the $25,000 Zahn Incubator Prize.
- Lawrence Petersen believes the kind of innovative thinking he learned at San Diego State’s College of Business helped him understand how to move a company forward. He and his wife, Madeline, who jointly founded three successful companies, have bequeathed $2 million from their estate to The Campaign for SDSU.
- A $1 million gift from alumni Keith Behner and Catherine Stiefel will benefit students in San Diego State’s Latin American Studies program and the Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy. The new gift is in addition to two dozen scholarships funded by the couple for students in the College of Business and the Department of Political Science.
- Sharp HealthCare’s $500,000 gift created new scholarships in the College of Health and Human Services and established the Sharp HealthCare Professional Education and Research Institute on campus. Sharp’s total support of San Diego State now stands at $2.4 million.
