Andrew Jones

Andrew Jones is the Executive Vice Chancellor and General Counsel for the California State University. He also serves as the Secretary of the Board of Trustees.  His responsibilities include supervising the operations of the Office of General Counsel (OGC) and overseeing all legal services for the 23-campus California State University system.  Jones’s legal team includes Litigators and University Counsel who provide all manner of legal services to the campuses in areas as varied as labor and employment (e.g., discrimination and harassment, collective bargaining, the FLSA and privacy), business and finance (e.g., capital planning and facilities management, CEQA, contracts and procurement), and academic and student affairs (e.g., immigration and residency, student discipline, student loans, and Title IX and athletic association compliance).  The Office of General Counsel team also handles in-house a significant load of the University’s litigation, ranging from stop notices and unlawful detainers, to discrimination and harassment cases, to complex arbitrations, administrative hearings and multi-party civil actions.

Jones joined the Office of General Counsel in October of 2000 and was University Counsel for several CSU campuses, as well as team leader for the OGC’s Business & Finance Team.  He also served in an interim capacity as the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources.  Prior to his current role, Jones served as Associate Vice Chancellor and Deputy General Counsel.

Jones is “made in the CSU,” and a product of the California higher education system. During his four years as a student at CSU Long Beach, he worked five days a week at the local community college and graduated in the top 1% of his class (4.0 GPA) from CSU Long Beach with a B.S. in Business Administration. He went on to earn his J.D. degree at the University of California, Davis, where he received the Outstanding Advocate Award and served as Chair of the Moot Court Board.

Prior to joining the CSU, Jones was in private practice and was a partner in the Los Angeles-based firm of Adams, Duque & Hazeltine, and later was a partner in his own firm, Myers & Jones, LLP. After 15 years in private practice, Jones returned to the CSU in 2000 to serve the institution that gave him his start.
