A world-renowned expert in the scientific study of decision-making, Dr. Michael H. Birnbaum, professor of psychology, was named this year’s recipient of Cal State Fullerton’s L. Donald Shields Excellence in Scholarship and Creativity Award.

Since joining Cal State Fullerton in 1986, Birnbaum has been recognized as a two-time recipient of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Outstanding Scholarship and Creativity Award, and was the 1992 recipient of the Outstanding Professor Award. Birnbaum’s achievements include founding the university’s Decision Research Center, serving as president of three international scholarly organizations, and authoring or co-authoring more than 130 articles and presentations, many of which were co-authored with students.
