Distinguished Scholarship Award, 2014-2015
San Luis Obispo
Department of Horticulture & Crop Science

Whether conducted by myself, undergraduates or graduate students, the research conducted in my lab has always emphasized finding practical answers to real-world problems.
Dr. Wyatt Brown is a professor in Horticulture and Crop Science where he has taught for 25 years. He came to Cal Poly from LSU via Cornell and teaches classes in vegetable science and postharvest technology. He and his technician, James Green, have patented an antibrowning formula that prevents the browning of many fresh-cut fruits and vegetables and which significantly reduces the growth of aerobic bacteria, yeast and molds on many of these products.

Dr. Brown has recently conducted considerable research on recycled plastics and the potential safety problems arising from their use. He is an adjunct professor in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department at Iowa State University where he is involved in ISU's Polymer and Food Protection Consortium.
