East Bay
Department of Economics

'Jed has enhanced the reputation of East Bay both within and outside the United States through his publications and expertise.  He works hard every day to do his best in research, teaching/advising, and service.' -Dean Jagdish Agrawal on Dr. Jed DeVaro

An internationally recognized expert in Human Resource Management, Dr. Jed DeVaro, Professor and Chair of the Economics Department at CSU East Bay, has published over 17 scholarly articles in top-ranked business journals since arriving in Hayward in September 2008.  Dr. DeVaro has examined such hot-button topics as the effect of self-managed teams on productivity, the impact of performance-based pay on worker health, and gender-bias in police traffic stops.  Wherever possible, he integrates his research on compensation and decision-making into his management courses and he is a sought-after speaker in locales as diverse as Tokyo, Pittsburgh, and Helsinki.  Dr. Devaro sets a high bar, but has always shown a willingness to collaborate with colleagues on publications and to find opportunities for professional development for his departmental faculty.  Dr. Jed Devaro is a model of research productivity and is recognized throughout the campus as an Outstanding Tenured Researcher at our university.
