Merryl Goldberg, Ed.D.

President’s Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching Innovation & Excellence, 2013-2014
San Marcos
Department of Visual & Performing Arts

Students can use art as a powerful tool to express themselves, communicate ideas, and work through challenges. They can find their voice, take risks, use their imaginations, learn discipline, and understand that problem solving isn’t about either/or.
Professor Merryl Goldberg teaches classes on “learning through the arts” where students create songs for math problems, use puppet shows for literature, and raps for events in history. She also applies the learning directly by bringing her students into school settings, and by bringing K-12 students onto campus.

Professor Goldberg’s love for embracing students’ potential while engaging them in arts-based activities serves to uncover students’ capabilities to help them reach new heights. Her passion for teaching in innovative ways earned her the President’s Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching Innovation and Excellence at CSU San Marcos.
