Our character is clearly exhibited by the choices we make. As I watch our students choosing to do good works--even against unbelievable obstacles – I am inspired and extremely confident that there is great hope for our future.
Sharon B. Hamill, Professor of Psychology, is Program Director of the Child and Adolescent Development program and Faculty Director of the CSU Institute for Palliative Care at CSU San Marcos. Dr. Hamill works with her students to investigate the development of personal and social responsibility among adolescent and emerging adult caregivers, caregiving in multi-generational families of Alzheimer’s disease patients, and ethnic group differences in caregiving. She focuses her research and teaching on promoting palliative care in order to decrease suffering and increase quality of life among patients and their families. Dr. Hamill is a first-generation graduate of the CSU system and credits the influence of mentors from CSU Long Beach and University of California, Irvine for instilling in her a love of teaching, research, and mentorship.
