Amber Hammons, Ph.D.

Promising New Faculty Award, 2016-17
Fresno
Department of Child, Family, & Consumer Sciences

My research has taught me to never underestimate the power of productive failure; which can be uncomfortable while experiencing it but well worth it in the long term.
In addition to her significant contributions in teaching and service, Dr. Hammons has revolutionized the research culture of her department, working closely with undergraduate students to help them gain community-based research experience. As co-principal director on a USDA grant, she is implementing an obesity prevention program for Hispanic families. Dr. Hammons is passionate about teaching online and helping students get the most out of an online course. She was recognized for her exemplary work with a CSU QOLT (quality online learning and teaching) award. Dr. Hammons has been instrumental in helping Fresno State to become first in the CSU to receive the ‘Healthy Campus’ designation through Partnership for a Healthier America, working with the University’s Health Cohort and Student Health Center.  She is a 2016-2017 recipient of the Provost’s Promising New Faculty Award.
