Promising New Faculty Award, 2017-18
Fresno
Department of Philosophy

“The goal is not simply to teach facts and information, but to inspire students to fall in love with learning, and how to find their own truths and respecting the truths of others."

With her motto, “Believe in your students,” Dr. Howard places the interests of students at the center of her teaching, research, and community activities.  As a first-generation college student, her objectives are to inspire students and instill a life-long love for learning. She has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored a book on Gandhi. Dr. Howard has received several research grants and secured a three-year grant for a student essay/project competition on Gandhi’s legacy. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Parliament of the World’s Religions. As the first woman in her family to acquire a Ph.D. and pursue academia, she attributes her success to her parents and many teachers along her journey.
