Effective teaching is an interactive and collaborative process where teacher and learners bring their own perspectives to create knowledge. This process is most educational when applied to the real world.
Dr. Jongeun Kim has continuously contributed to high-impact learning experiences for students by incorporating projects on community service-learning into courses in the Apparel Design and Merchandising program at CSUN. Her projects have involved a wide variety of organizations serving ages ranging from preschool children to high school students to the elderly. Dr. Kim has worked closely with over 500 students to develop fashion products and assess viable target markets. She has disseminated her scholarship in the apparel, higher education pedagogy, and family/consumer science fields through publications and presentations. The Visionary Community Service-Learning Award honors a faculty member who has made the most outstanding contribution to the betterment of students and the community through a service-learning class.
