Gayle Olson-Raymer, Ph.D.
Excellence in Teaching Award: Lecturer, 2014-15
Humboldt
Department of History
Those of us who teach history understand that it's a dialog and debate. Our job as educators is to nurture the dialog, and encourage students to add to the debate.
It’s not just students at Humboldt State who benefit from Lecturer Gayle Olson-Raymer’s dedication to the art and science of teaching. Her published academic papers and consulting work through the national Teaching American History Program give her work a broader reach. For more than 20 years, Olson-Raymer’s students have benefited from her passion for teaching. In the Department of History, she has taught American history survey courses and classes that prepare students planning to become secondary educators. Until 2013, she taught methods courses for future educators in the School of Education. Her commitment to students, her passion for teaching, her wide array of teaching skills, and her knowledge of methodological instruction make Olson-Raymer the embodiment of the Excellence in Teaching Award.
