'Be eager to learn,’ as Norton Juster in (The Phantom Tollbooth) said, ‘…for whenever you learn something new, the whole world becomes that much richer.'
Soma Roy joined the Statistics Department faculty at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2008, after receiving a doctorate in Statistics from Ohio State. Her goal is to help students learn how to learn by guiding them through activities where students propose research questions, brainstorm and evaluate possible ways to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and in doing so “discover” the statistical investigation process. She is currently collaborating with statistics educators from around the nation on NSF-funded projects to develop introductory statistics curricula, and she is also the editor of the Journal of Statistics Education.
Her additional honors include the receiving the Craig Cooley Memorial Award for scholarly excellence and leadership and the Thomas E. and Jean D. Powers Award for outstanding teaching associate (OSU Statistics, 2007-2008).
