Rose Wong, Ph.D.

Outstanding Contributor to Community Engagement Award, 2014-2015
East Bay
Department of Social Work

Serving our local communities means providing them with help to achieve the needs they define and in the ways they see as most effective and appropriate.
An Assistant Professor at CSU East Bay since 2012, Rose Wong has earned a reputation as a researcher who engages closely with the local community. Dr. Wong worked with a volunteer team of health and mental health professionals and community members in the San Francisco Bay Area to develop depression educational videos, brochures, and assessment instruments in Chinese language for use in the immigrant community.

According to Dr. Wong, professionals and researchers have long recognized the need of such culture-based mental health materials, and she knew that engaging through close teamwork over a long period of time would be the key to developing these needed materials.
