The following statement can be attributed to California State University Chancellor Mildred García:

“On behalf of the entire CSU family, I thank President Biden for taking this important first step toward providing Dreamers with a clear pathway to citizenship – and I urge Congress to pass bipartisan legislation that will protect and support the Dreamers and DACA recipients who form such an indispensable pillar for our workforce, our economy and our society.

“The CSU’s approximately 10,000 Dreamers and 500 DACA employees are valued and integral members of our community. They are among our brightest and most engaged scholars, and they are leaders at every level of our university system. Our state and nation need the gifts of these talented and deserving current and future leaders. But let me be clear: The primary reason we seek support for Dreamers and DACA recipients is to honor their humanity – to remove inequitable and unfair barriers that stand between them and the fulfillment of their personal and professional dreams.”

On June 18, 2024, President Joe Biden announced new actions for individuals under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. One of the administration’s actions will allow DACA recipients and other Dreamers, who have earned a U.S. college degree and receive a job offer from a U.S. employer to move more quickly through the work visa process.

The CSU offers directly and partners with organizations to provide resources to undocumented students. More information is available at Resources for Undocumented Students.
