The National Association of Higher Education Systems (NASH) has elected California State University (CSU) Chancellor Mildred García to its Board of Directors.
García was nominated by NASH members, who collectively represent more than 700 institutions across the nation enrolling more than 8 million students. Founded in 1979, NASH works to advance the role of multi-campus systems and the concept of systemness to create a more vibrant and sustainable education sector.
"I’m honored to join the NASH Board of Directors. Now more than ever, higher education systems have the unique privilege and responsibility to create pathways of opportunity for all students. This is our mandate, and I look forward to working with my fellow board members as we advance our students’ lives and strengthen our nation’s communities through the power of higher education," García said.
In October 2023, García became the first Latina in the nation to lead a four-year public university system and the first Latina to lead the CSU. She previously served as president of two CSU campuses, CSU Dominguez Hills, from 2007 to 2012, and Cal State Fullerton, from 2012 to 2018. Prior to becoming chancellor, she was president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, working to influence federal policy and regulations on behalf of 350 member colleges and universities.
