On June 25, 2024, Governor Gavin Newsom announced the appointment of Sam Nejabat to the California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees. The role requires Senate confirmation. The CSU Board of Trustees is the 25-member board that adopts regulations and policies governing the university.

Sam Nejabat serves as the senior advisor of Business Affairs to Attorney General Rob Bonta at the California Department of Justice. Previously, Nejabat served as assistant deputy director of External Affairs for the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, and as president of SJN Properties from 2013 to 2020.

Nejabat is a member of the 22nd District Agricultural Association Board of Directors, also known as the Del Mar Fairgrounds, and a member of the San Diego Convention Center Board of Directors.

Nejabat earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, a juris doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and a master’s degree in liberal studies from Dartmouth College.

Nejabat’s appointment to the board fills the vacancy left by Lateefah Simon, who stepped down earlier this year. His term is through 2027.
