Has been involved with El Nido Family Centers for more than 30 years and is credited with driving its growth. The non-profit agency provides youth counseling, parent education, child abuse and teen pregnancy prevention in a number of locations throughout Los Angeles County.
Served Cal State L.A. on the School of Social Work Advisory Board for more than five years and has led the school’s partnership with El Nido, which includes the Margarita Mendez Lecture Series.
Involved with the Department of Child Development, having initiated a mentoring program for El Nido youth clients that provides opportunities for leadership and community involvement to students majoring in child development.
