Anthony Velasquez
Cofounder and Director, César Chávez Fútbol Academy

CSU Monterey Bay

B.A., Human Communication (2013)

  • While participating in a service learning course at CSU Monterey Bay in 2011, Velasquez and his classmate developed a plan to create the César Chávez Fútbol Academy (CCFA), an organization for Salinas community youths and families to enhance their lives through academic success and the game of soccer.
  • In 2014, CCFA gained 501(c)(3) non-profit status through the Action Council of Monterey County. Velasquez has written and received grants totaling over $300,000 allowing CCFA to be the most affordable US Club Soccer option in the nation.
  • CCFA provides local serious, dedicated players the opportunity to play for a high-level team and receive high-quality coaching, training and tutoring for free.
  • In 2016, CCFA became an approved service learning site, helping CSUMB students pay it forward in their communities. The organization has hosted seven annual successful toy drives for the under-served, homeless, and foster youth population.
  • Velasquez began teaching business at King City High School in 2019 and currently serves as the school's athletic director.
