While participating in a service learning course at CSU Monterey Bay in 2011, Velasquez and his classmate developed a plan to create the César Chávez Fútbol Academy (CCFA), an organization for Salinas community youths and families to enhance their lives through academic success and the game of soccer.
In 2014, CCFA gained 501(c)(3) non-profit status through the Action Council of Monterey County. Velasquez has written and received grants totaling over $300,000 allowing CCFA to be the most affordable US Club Soccer option in the nation.
CCFA provides local serious, dedicated players the opportunity to play for a high-level team and receive high-quality coaching, training and tutoring for free.
In 2016, CCFA became an approved service learning site, helping CSUMB students pay it forward in their communities. The organization has hosted seven annual successful toy drives for the under-served, homeless, and foster youth population.
Velasquez began teaching business at King City High School in 2019 and currently serves as the school's athletic director.
