Donaldson created the Convoy of Hope to empower others to live independent lives free from poverty, disease and hunger. Starting as an international initiative to feed children, the organization has grown to provide disaster response to relieve communities at home and abroad. Donaldson was inspired to start the non-profit after meeting Mother Theresa.
Since 1994, Convoy of Hope has served over 100 million people in 115 countries by providing food, water, emergency supplies and agricultural know-how to those who need them most. $805 million worth of food and supplies have been distributed by 615,000 volunteers.
Ninety percent of every dollar raised by Convoy of Hope goes directly to programming. The non-profit has received the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator for 15 years in a row.
Convoy of Hope encourages women around the world to realize their value and reach their potential through job training and education. In seven countries, women have access to financial education, vocational training, cooperative saving groups and even start-up capital, and its Empowered Girls program brings educational sessions to schools and communities.
