California State University, Fullerton
Edison International Scholar

I’ve been inspired by people in my daily life to leave a place better than you found it.

2024

A first-generation college student, Estrella Bonilla moved more than 200 miles away from home to pursue an education. With her family’s support, she has overcome her initial self-doubt.

Today, Estrella is a senior at Cal State Fullerton, working toward her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. She has been on the dean’s list and currently serves as a mechanical engineering tutor at the Student Success Center. Additionally, she is a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.

Estrella graduated with honors from the College of the Sequoias, where she earned three associate degrees—in engineering, physics and mathematics. She also participated in the prestigious NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars Program.

She plans to pursue a career in renewable energy, working to find solutions to safe battery manufacturing, recycling and disposal.
