TELACU Scholar
Ezekiel Leyva is pursuing a mechanical
engineering degree at Cal Poly Pomona while
working in the university’s music department.
Ezekiel blends engineering and robotics
education with his love for music in leading a
high school summer camp initiative. He tutors
students in music and coaches them at the
engineering department. This work has helped
the students qualify for the First Robotics
World Championships.
Ezekiel has won an engineering innovation
competition in which he developed a device to
help people stop smoking, as well as the Louis
Armstrong Jazz Award.
Socioeconomic issues that limited his access
to resources and academic support have not
stopped him from earning a high GPA while
working two jobs and volunteering.
Ezekiel hopes to promote positive global
change through technology and creativity.
He plans to create a 3D printing business
to produce affordable casts or custom
wheelchairs for animals that are disabled.
