I want to be a role model and embody the representation and services that were not available during my youth.

2024

Juan Carlos Arredondo is a bilingual Mexican American graduate student who lived in Mexico throughout his childhood. The challenges he experienced while relocating to the U.S. with his family inspired him to become a social worker. He completed a bachelor’s degree in social work at San Francisco State and is maintaining a 4.0 GPA as he pursues a master’s degree.

Juan Carlos has provided leadership for a qualitative study on the lived experiences of the Tenderloin District’s unhoused population, supported foster youth as a Willie L. Brown Jr. Fellow with San Francisco Human Services Agency and advocated before the state legislature to increase mental health services for CSU students.

He plans to serve as an advocate for migrant families in the Bay Area. A compassionate leader and role model for young men of color, Juan Carlos aspires to fill the representation gap among Latino men in social work.
