I chose to pursue psychology because I’ve experienced the profound impact of navigating life’s challenges alone.

Through empathetic support and her own resilience, and despite unique challenges, Maileen Soriano-Mamaradlo has become a successful and involved student.

A psychology major at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Maileen volunteers with College Corps, assisting others who are dealing with the issues she experienced. An AmeriCorps Fellow, Cal Poly Scholar, Multicultural Scholar, Alpha Gamma Sigma member, California Community College Student Ambassador and Associated Students of Cuesta College Student Senator, she has had the opportunity to make tangible differences in lives of others.

As a non-native English speaker and an older immigrant student with dependents, and despite facing financial constraints and enduring the loss of a child, Maileen has navigated the educational journey by using creative solutions.

Maileen’s goal is to become a compassionate, respected psychologist specializing in clinical or counseling psychology, providing support and guidance for those facing life’s challenges by drawing from her own experiences.
