My goals...are to become an excellent engineer and to gain the skills and knowledge I need to make a meaningful contribution to society and do fulfilling work.

David Buckley's path to college was not typical. Working as an assistant manager in retail and later as a financial advisor left him unfulfilled, and he resolved to satisfy his desire to be challenged and do meaningful work.

In the fall of 2012, David entered into the mechanical engineering program at the California State University Maritime Academy with a minor in power generation. David is the vice-chair of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) club on campus. As part of SNAME, he is a principle organizer of SeaPerch, a program where SNAME members mentor middle school and high school students through the process of building underwater remote operated vehicles. Next year, David hopes to expand the program to several schools in the Vallejo area.

David's goal is to become an excellent engineer and gain the skills and knowledge to make a meaningful contribution to society.
