Regan Porteous' father was sentenced to life in prison when she was an infant. During her childhood she traveled great distances to visit him every Sunday. She not only faced the obstacle of not having a father involved in her daily life, but also the stigma of the incarceration. At the request of a district attorney in her hometown, she has shared her story with students in continuation schools to help them cope with similar circumstances.
Today, Regan is a sophomore at California State University, Monterey Bay, majoring in psychology. She currently volunteers for the university's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which includes putting on youth clinics, reading to elementary school children, and collecting food for the Salvation Army. Regan serves on the committee as a member of CSU Monterey Bay's soccer team.
Regan plans to attend graduate school and work with children in circumstances similar to those she experienced as a child.
