San Diego State UniversityTrustee Emeritus Ali C. Razi Scholar
A first-generation college student, Alejandro Arias knows how challenging it is to navigate the higher education system as a transfer student. Alejandro faced – and overcame – a variety of challenges adapting to the campus environment and family obligations, completing two associate degrees and transferring to San Diego State University.
Alejandro is committed to giving back to the community. Through the Transfer Student Outreach Alliance, Alejandro helps community college students navigate the university transfer process. He also volunteers weekly with Heartfelt Helping, a local non-profit meal service organization that supports the homeless population in San Diego.
Professionally, Alejandro has worked with students and families to navigate the educational system and hopes to become a college faculty member in the future. Through various fellowships, he has learned to ask the right research questions and how to conduct meaningful research that addresses the challenges of college students.
